Derek

Welcome to the St Columba’s website – we have just undergone a major re-vamp, so I felt that it was time for me to write a new ‘minister’s bit’

I’ve been minister here since 2001, having previously worked in a congregation in the Highlands of Scotland (in a beautiful part of the world, Rosskeen). I’ve been married to Catriona since 1989, and we have four children – Scott, Amy, Joe and Ross.

The time has passed very quickly, and I am amazed to have seen God bringing special people to us, and the congregation being built up and developed.

Before 2001, the congregation had been decimated when a large number left them - and the denomination at the same time. It was a very difficult time – disunity and rebellion is never easy. However, with God’s grace and the help of His Holy Spirit, we have seen great things happen. But I feel it is only the beginning. There is so much still to be done.

Edinburgh is a great city, and I feel privileged to minister to a city centre congregation. I believe as we centre our lives and worship around the living Word of God then we will see the Gospel impacting our communities and city.

I want St C’s to help equip our people for works of service.

Jesus Christ is my only hope, and I want to focus my ministry on sharing the Gospel – with all its implications – to my congregation, so that they will enjoy Christ themselves, and want others to come to know him.

I would love to have the opportunity to share this truth that we have experienced in our hearts, and that has transformed our lives. If you live in Edinburgh, why not come along to St C’s. If you are surfing the web, please consider listening to some of the teaching from God’s Word that is preached from week to week here, where I pray you will be introduced to my friend Jesus in a little more detail.

St Columba’s is a growing city centre congregation here in Edinburgh. During term time, we have around 150 people worshipping with us on a Sunday morning, including many young people, families and individuals, older and younger!

Look through the website for more information, or use the contact details to get in touch with us if you want to find out more.
